The BIE BHWP Call Line, Option 2, is the referral line to schedule Virtual Counseling services. These services are grounded in solution-focused short-term counseling.

How to Access Virtual Counseling?

What to Expect from Virtual Counseling Sessions?

  • One-on-one counseling.

  • Grounded in a solution-focused, brief therapy framework.

  • School-based model.

  • Evidence-based and culturally sensitive.

  • Short-term (up to six sessions).

  • Confidential and HIPAA-compliant.

  • Provided at NO COST.

Virtual Counseling Eligibility

The following entities funded by BIE are eligible for Virtual Counseling:

  • K-12 schools.

  • Haskell Indian Nations University students and staff.

  • Southwestern Indian Polytechnic Institute students and staff.

  • Students and staff from Tribal Colleges and Universities receiving funding from BIE.

  • Staff members from other programs and/or departments funded by BIE. 

BIE BHWP Virtual Counseling Services DO NOT support:

  • Long-term, intensive therapy.

  • Substance abuse treatment.

  • Diagnostic testing.

  • Sharing counseling progress with supervisors (as part of personnel actions).

  • Psychological exams.

What is Solution-Focused Brief Therapy?

According to research, solution-focused brief therapy:

  • Decreases behavioral health symptoms.

  • Significantly improved student or staff well-being once they implemented the recommended behavior changes (when provided in a school setting).

  • Is effective for students who have intellectual, learning or developmental difficulties.

  • Is adaptable for cultural sensitivity.
