Behavioral Health and Wellness Program

BIE BHWP offers free behavioral health and wellness support services for students and staff at all entities funded by BIE. This includes Bureau Operated Schools, Tribally Controlled Schools, Navajo Schools, post-secondary entities and all programs and departments funded by BIE.

The Bureau of Indian Education Behavioral Health and Wellness Program provides a culturally relevant, evidence-based, and trauma-informed behavioral health and wellness service to students and staff at all schools and programs funded by the BIE. This includes Bureau Operated Schools, Tribally Controlled Schools, Navajo Schools, post-secondary entities and all programs and departments funded by BIE.

BIE BHWP Services

All BIE BHWP services adopt a holistic, culturally relevant and trauma-informed approach to behavioral health and wellness.

Immediate Individual Crisis Support:

The 24/7 BIE BHWP Call Line provides users with two options. Option 1 will connect the caller to Immediate Individual Crisis Support from a trained counselor. Dial 1-844-ASK-BHWP (1-844-275-2497) and select Option 1 to get started.

Virtual Counseling:

The 24/7 BIE BHWP Call Line, Option 2 will connect the caller to the Care Coordinator, who will initiate the virtual counseling services process for the caller. Dial 1-844-ASK-BHWP (1-844-275-2497) and select Option 2 to get started.

On-site and/or Virtual Crisis Support:

BIE BHWP provides timely, 48-hour post-event response. We provide individualized school or program support with Indigenous protocols at the forefront of our efforts. We follow a short-term recovery model and offer extra support after an emergency. 

Training and Technical Assistance:

BIE BHWP provides on-site and virtual TTA on behavioral health and wellness topics such as Culture and Drugs Don’t Mix, Youth Mental Health First Aid, Gathering of Native Americans and Positive Classroom Management.
